Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the titled composition having high safety, by suspending egg yolk in an organic solvent, separating the solid fraction from the suspension, removing the organic solvent from the resultant solution containing non-solidifying substance, and using a definite amount of the obtained fraction as an active component.

CONSTITUTION: Egg yolk is suspended in an organic solvent (e.g. hexane, chloroform, etc.), and solid fraction is separated therefrom. The organic solvent is removed from the resultant solution containing non-solidifying substance and the obtained fraction is used as an active component of a composition having cholesterol level lowering or cholesterol level increase suppressing activity. The amount of the fraction is ≥5wt% based on the whole composition. There is no limitation on the freshness of the egg yolk provided that the yolk is edible. The amount of the organic solvent is preferably 5W20pts. per 1pt. of the egg yolk. The composition is not only effective to hypercholesterolemia caused by various diseases such as arteriosclerosis, hyperlipemia, diabetes, etc., but also effective to suppress the increase of the blood cholesterol level of a healthy man caused by the intake of a food having high cholesterol content.
