Abstract:
PURPOSE:To eliminate the intervention of an operator and a complicated processing procedure by reading successively the written data out of a top block and therafter and writing the link information to be given successively to replacement blocks to the block where an error is detected. CONSTITUTION:The data which are transferred from an objective block (n) to a CPU are written successively as (n+1), (n+2) and so on. When the writing is through with all data, a magnetic disk controller starts reading data at and after the top block (n). If an uncorrectable error is detected when the block (n+ 1) is read out, an unallotted replacement block 1 provided at a part of a cylinder is selected. Then the link information which is given to a defective flag as well as to the block 1 is written to the ID part of the block (n+1). Then the block (n+2) is read out. In such a way, a replacement block is automatically allotted to the block containing an error. This can eliminates a complicated procedure of an operator.
