PURPOSE: To provide an applying method for producing a product with uniform coating film thickness in high speed thin layer application by retarding the breakage of the film and preventing a variation in coating film thickness in the width direction and the generation of streaks due to unevenness of a supporting body in the width direction.
CONSTITUTION: In an applying method, a coating liquid 5 is applied by an applying head 1 having a front edge 3 and a back edge 4 which is retreated from the front edge 3 in the anti-supporting body direction in a state in which the head is sealed with a precoat liquid 7 of low viscosity mainly composed of an organic solvent previously applied on the coating surface of a supporting body 2. The traveling speed of the supporting body is ≥400m/min and the coating liquid 5 is discharged from a slot behind the front edged while the coating film thickness of the precoat liquid is adjusted within the ranges of 1≤R≤5, 10≤T≤30, and -0.5°≤α≤2°, where R(mm) is the radius of curvature of the curved surface which is the upper surface of the edge of the front edge, T(kg/m) is the tension of the supporting body, and α is the incident angle of the supporting body to the front edge.
