Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:Compounds of formula I (R1 is H or OH-protecting group; R2 is 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkenyl, 1-4C alkynyl or phenyl; R3 is OH, R4 is H, R3 and R4 together form epoxy; Steric configuration at chiral center C marked with * is alternatively S-configuration or R-configuration; In case ring- constituting C atoms marked with * are chiral center, steric configurations at respective chiral centers C are S-configuration or R-configuration). EXAMPLE:(2S,3S,5R)-5-benzyloxymethyl-2,3-epoxy-3-methyl-delta-valerola ctone. USE:Medicines, agricultural chemicals, cosmetics, food additives and intermediate for synthesis thereof. PREPARATION:An optically active (S)- or (R)-glycidol compound of formula II is reacted with propargylic acid (derivative) of formula III (R5 is H, alkyl, etc.) and the resultant reaction product is reacted with a nucleophilic agent of formula IV (MI is monovalent metal ion; MII is divalent metal ion) to obtain a compound of formula V followed by oxidation thereof.
