PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of a paint or the mixing of foreign matters, by a method wherein a coating roll having cushioning property is rotated to be contacted with a conveyed pattern plate and a paint liquid contained in the coating roll is emitted to suck up the excessive paint liquid at both side parts of the coating roll.

CONSTITUTION: A mechanism 3 for conveying a recessed and protruded embossed pattern plate 1 so as to position the pattern surface 2 thereof faced to the front surface side, a coating roll 4 having cushioning property having a width wider than that of the pattern plate 1 rotated while contacted with said pattern surface 2 and a squeeze roll 6 opposed to and contacted with the roll 4 and uniformly containing a paint liquid 7 flowed down from a paint send-in port 5 to the width direction of the roll 4 are provided. In this situation, the roll 4 is contacted with the plate 1 in such a condition that the paint liquid is contained in an amount more than a coating amount to emit the paint liquid contained therein and the excessive paint liquid is flooded to both side flange directions of the plate 1 and rotated while the paint liquid accumulated in a recessed part is sucked when the roll 4 is parted from the plate 1 as well as the flooded paint liquid is also sucked up at both side parts of the roll 4 to recover the excessive paint liquid by the roll 4.
