1524296 Aerials THOMSON-CSF 25 Feb 1976 [28 Feb 1975] 07508/76 Heading H4A An antenna arrangement includes reflector 3, arranged as a periscope and mounted at the top end of pylon 2 at the base of which is situated directional antenna 1. A microwave beam transmitted from antenna I vertically, in direction A, is deflected by reflector 3 into direction B. Any tendency for reflector 3 to also reflect unwanted microwave signals in direction B, e.g. from secondary lobes or nearby transmitters is reduced by provision of device 4 which forms a cowling over reflector 3, is shaped to have horizontal and vertical openings for passage of the wanted beam to and from reflector 3 and comprises an outer layer of metal and may further comprise an inner layer of microwave absorbing material e.g., graphite loaded polyurethane foam. Alternatively, the metal may be replaced by laminated glass. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the device 4 may comprise only collar 42 around reflector 3, and horizontal and vertical collars 43 and 44 respectively. In a further embodiment vertical collar 44 may be dispensed with and the reflector collar suitably enlarged (Fig. 4, not shown).
