PURPOSE: To make accurate melt-bonding possible by detecting the position of a resin frame and passing it between tooth form rollers when a holder is brought into contact with plate obtained by filling paste in a substrate comprising lead grid and resin frame and they are melt-bonded.
CONSTITUTION: A plate 4 is formed by filling active material paste 3 in a substrate comprising a lead grid 1 and a resin frame 2. An active material holder 5 is brought into contact with both sides of the plate 4 and they are bonded by melting the resin frame with tooth form rollers 6. In this process, light from a light source 7 is emitted to one side of the plate. The position of the resin frame 2 is detected by a light receiver 8 by utilizing the difference of light transmission in the paste 3 and resin frame 2, then the resin frame 2 is automatically or manually positioned so that it just locates tooth form part of the tooth form rollers 6. Therefore, the active material holder 5 is accurately melt-bonded to the resin frame. Thereby, cycle life of a battery is increased.
