PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as an intermediate of analgesic and antiphlogistic agent, insecticide, etc., in high yield, by reacting an α-haloalkanoic acid ester with a Grignard reagent derived from an aryl halide and metallic Mg, in the presence of an Ni compound.
CONSTITUTION: A Grignard reagent derived from the compound of formula Ar- X1[X1 is halogen; Ar is group of formulaI(R3 is alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkoxy, halogen, etc.; R4 is H or F) or formula II (R5 is alkoxy)]and metallic Mg is made to react with the compound of formula III (R1 and R2 are lower alkyl; X2 is halogen) in the presence of an Ni compound, preferably NiCl2, NiBr2, Ni acetylacetonate, etc., at 0W50°C to obtain the objective compound of formula IV. The amount of the nickel compound is 0.05W10mol%, based on the Grignard reagent.
