PURPOSE: To erase tracks as much as set up continuously and programmably by providing the titled device with a means for switching erasing operation for a single track to continuous erasing operation for plural tracks.

CONSTITUTION: An up/down counter 14 makes a head 2 access a track to be erased. A track No. is stored in an up/down counter 12 and displayed on a display part 15 through a decorder/driver 12'. The track No. displayed on the display part 15 always coincides with the track on which the head 2 is positioned. When an operator makes the head 2 access the track to be erased and then operates an erase switch 17, an erase sequence for the single track is executed. When the set up optional tracks from an optional track No. are to be continuously erased, the number of tracks set up in an erase track No. counter 13 is entered.
