Title:
PRODUCTION OF INFRARED OPTICAL FIBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60118645
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: Starting materials chalcogenide glass containing at least one selected form S, Se and Te is heat-treated in deuterium atmosphere produced infrared optical fiber passing through beams of long wavelengths.

CONSTITUTION: High-purity Ge blocks and at least one selected from high-purity S, Se and Te are used as starting materials and heated in an atmosphere of deuterium in an electric furnace to substitute hydrogen atoms. Then, they are vacuum-sealed in a quartz glass tube, melted with heat under stirring, then cooled down to room temperature to form a block. The resultant block is ground into a rod of preform, then melt-drawn with heat into optical fiber of cholgenide glass. The optical fiber cam transmit the light of 2W6μm wave length.
