PURPOSE: To attain a maximum tape use efficiency and a high SN ratio in any long-time mode, by piling up and using two video heads.
CONSTITUTION: A coil 55 performs recording and reproducing of long-time mode through a gap 57 in a track width 52. A coil 56 performs recording and reproducing of short-time mode through gaps 57 and 58 in a track width 53. The thickness of a glass member 54 is made thicker than the width of gaps 57 and 58 for the purpose of preventing the leakage magnetic flux between the first ferrite member 46a and the second ferrite member 46b. By this constitution, the degradation of a tape due to the friction between heads and the tape can be ignored, and the use of the full track width, what is called, azimuth solid writing is possible in any short-time mode and long-time mode and, the best picture quality is attained in each mode.
