PURPOSE: To prepare easily a micro-lens array with large difference of refractive index and short focal length by carrying out polymn. of monomer capable of forming a transparent body in a dent formed on a transparent substrate.
CONSTITUTION: An array of semispherical dents 5 are formed on a transparent substrate 1 (such as glass plate, transparent resin plate, etc.). The substrate 1 is placed in the atmosphere of a monomer 6 (e.g. styrene contg. divinyl benzene, etc. as cross-linking agent) which forms a transparent body having different refractive index to the above described substrate 1 when the monomer is polymerised, and transparent polymer is caused to deposit on the substrate 1 and in the dents 5 by irradiating with ultraviolet rays 7. Then the surface of the deposit is polished until the surface of the substrate is exposed. In this way, a micro-lens array comprising semispherical transparent bodies 2 arranged on the substrate 1 and united to one body is obtd.
