Abstract:

PURPOSE:To improve feeling upon riding on a vehicle or the steering stability of the vehicle by a method wherein a running condition such as the sudden starting or the high-speed running of the vehicle is detected from the opening degree signal of a throttle and the speed signal of the vehicle to increase the damping force of a shock absorber temporarily. CONSTITUTION:The valve 52a of a plunger 52 is provided with an open groove 53 at the side surface thereof and, under the non-exicting condition of a coil 50, the damping force of a shock absorber is determined at a constant value by both of the communicating sectional areas of orifices 30, 32 or the same 33, 34 provided on a piston 24 and a variable orifice 40. When an exciting current is supplied to the coil 50 and the plunger 52 is moved to the left, the variable orifice 40 is closed by the valve 52a and the damping force is varied and adjusted to increase it temporarily. Accordingly, the comfortable feeling upon riding on a vehicle or the steering stability of the vehicle upon the sudden starting or the high-speed running, for example, may be obtained by a method wherein the solenoid coil 50 is excited by the opening degree signal of the throttle and the running speed signal of the vehicle.
