PURPOSE: To reduce defects and to improve quality by applying ultrasonic waves to the molten metal in a mold by application of ultrasonic oscillations to the belt of the charging side mold thereby supplying the molten metal in the sharp angled parts of the molds as well.
CONSTITUTION: An endless metallic belt 3 is moved in contact with a part of the outside circumferential surface of a rotary wheel 1 for casting provided with a hollow channel 2 on the outside circumferential surface, by means of a pressure wheel 4 and a guide wheel or the like, whereby a water cooled mold 5 is formed. A nozzle 6 is provided on the side where the mold 5 begins to contact with the belt, and molten Al or Al alloy 7 is charged into the mold 5 through the nozzle 6. An ultrasonic oscillator 8 is provided on said charging side, and the transmission horn 9 thereof is pressed to the outside surface of the belt 3 of the mold 5 to apply ultrasonic waves to the molten metal 7 entering the inside of the mold 5 through the nozzle 6. The ultrasonic waves are of several kHz frequencies or above, and are selected in accordance with ingot sizes, casting conditions, etc. For the change in casting conditions, ultrasonic oscillation conditions are properly regulated.
