PURPOSE: To control peak electric power generated at te time of strong lighting in a copying machine, by reducing supply electric power to a fixation device heater in accordance with lighting of an exposure lamp when an original exposure lamp is lighted additionally by a potential control operation.

CONSTITUTION: At the time of operation of copying preparation, namely, at the time of a potential control operation which requires strong lighting of an exposure lamp, an additional lighting signal P1 is supplied to a CPU1 and an original exposure lamp control divece 2, by which a switch SW1 is closed, an exposure lamp LA2 is lighted continuously, and also in accordance with the timing of a lighting signal P0 for flickering an exposure lamp LA1, a control signal P2 is supplied to a fixation heater control device 3. Also, the constitution is made so that when a switch SW3 is closed, a switch SW2 is opened, and when the switch SW 3 is opened, the switch SW2 is closed, and fixation heaters H1 and H2 are flickered. That is to say, when the heaters H1 and H2 are turned off at the time of lighting of the exposure lamp LA1, extending over a period of time when the exposure lamp LA2 is lighted additonally, the power consumpttion can be saved by that portion.
