PURPOSE: To obtain the titled novel very stable resin having improved chemical resistance, etc. and further improved adsorptivity, by introducing a specific residue to a chloromethylated crosslinked polystyrene, and reacting the resultant polystyrene derivative with hydroxylamine.
CONSTITUTION: A novel chelate resin obtained by reacting (A) a chloromethylated crosslinked polystyrene with (B) a dilower alkyl malonate, and (C) reacting hydroxylamine with the resultant polystyrene derivative of formula I (R is lower alkyl) containing benzylated alkyl malonate to introduce the dihydroxamic acid residue of formula II into the side chain thereof. The reaction of the components (A) with (B) is preferably carried out in the presence of a sodium hydride catalyst in an ether solvent at 50W100°C for 5W30hr.
USE: Adsorbing and recovering metallic ions in minor amounts dissolved in seawater, etc.
