PURPOSE: To eliminate the need of decorative finish of the rear face of an object to which a latch is mounted as well as to enable a female engaging member to be mounted easily, by pressing and fitting the part of a small diameter rod projecting from a plate of the latch into a mounting hole of a decorative member.

CONSTITUTION: A permanent magnet 1 having a hole 1a opened from one magnetic pole face to the other pole face is provided with a ferromagnetic plate 2 attached to one of the magnetic pole faces (a). A case 7 is mounted on the magnet 1 so as to cover and hold the magnetically attracting face and peripheral face of the magnet 1 and the peripheral edge and lower face of the plate 2. A small-diameter rod 3a of a ferromagnetic projection 3 is inserted into the mounting hole of the plate 2 and the part of the rod 3a further projecting from the plate 2 is inserted into an object 6 to which the latch is attached. The rod 3a projecting from the opposite side of the object 6 is pressed and fitted into a mounting hole 5a provided in a metallic decorative member 5. While a female engaging member is thus constructed, a male engaging member is constructed with a ferromagnetic plate 4 to be removably attracted by the other pole face (b) of the magnet 1, and a ferromagnetic rod 4a projecting from the center of the plate 4 and removably attracted by the ferromagnetic rod 3 in the hole 3, and the plate 4 is provided with a fitment on its non-attracting face.
