PURPOSE: To make it possible to control the temp. of a specimen mount stand with good accuracy, by such simple constitution that a second tank connected to a first heat conductor to the specimen mount stand is provided to the upper part of a first tank into which liquid nitrogen is supplied and the first tank and the second tank are connected by a liquid nitrogen supply pipe.
CONSTITUTION: When liquid nitrogen is injected into a second tank 8 from a first tank 11 through a metal pipe 9 in order to form a desired low temp. to a s pecimen mount stand, evaporation is performed in the second tank 8 and the specimen mount stand 5 reaches a min. temp. through a heat conductor 7 by a low temp. of about -196°C. In order to raise a temp. from this state, the exhaust amount of evaporated gas due to a valve B2 and the supply amount due to a valve B1 are reduced and, at the same time, an electric heater 12 is operated to gradually raise the temp. of said stand 5. When the liquid nitrogen in the second tank 8 is exhausted, evaporation is performed in the first tank 11 and the low temp. formed in said tank 11 is conducted to the heat conductor 7 through the second tank 8.
