PURPOSE: To manufacture sheet glass almost free from bubbles and streaks by passing molten glass formed on the surface of a molten metallic bath through the space between a weir member made of specified carbon graphite and the bath surface so as to carry out drawing.
CONSTITUTION: Molten glass 12 is fed onto a molten metallic bath 17 along a lip tile 15 while controlling the amount with a tweel 14 to form a molten glass pool 13 with side walls 22, a wet back tile 16 and a weir member 18. Molten glass 12 fed to the pool 13 is passed through the space between the member 18 and the surface of the bath 17 and drawn thin by the tractive force of conveying rolls installed at the outside of the bath 17 to form beltlike glass 23. By making use of isotropic carbon graphite having about 9W23% porosity as the material of the member 18, glass 23 almost free from bubbles and streaks can be obtd.
