METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CHANGING SPEED OF PARALLEL SHAFT GEAR TYPE AUTOMATIC CHANGE GEAR

PURPOSE:To smoothly perform gear change by eliminating the slip of a clutch by controlling an automatic change gear in such a way that the rotation speed of clutch during an electromagnetic clutch operation period becomes almost equal to the rotation speed of engine. CONSTITUTION:An electronic controller, when detecting the fact that a gear device becomes neutral state by the signal from a gear position detector, flows electric current o an electromagnetic clutch for a given period of time to make it half-clutched state temporarily, and thereby the input shaft of automatic change gear is connected to engine side. By the half-clutching operation, the rotation speed of the clutch comes near the rotation speed of engine at the time t5 as shown by broken line. Since the rotation speed of clutch during the clutch operation period is almost equal to that of engine by such a control, the slip of the clutch does not occur and therefore, comfortable ride feeling can be obtained.
