Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lightweight and stiff base material for growing plants used for urban greening excellent in air permeability and water retainability. SOLUTION: The tabular base material for growing plants is obtained by mixing 10wt.% of coir to a combination of 30-40wt.% of a dust of coconut palm and 60-50wt.% of coconut pericarp bits, and compression molding. This base material for growing plants is excellent in water retainability by the action of coconut palm dust, free from deformation by the pressure from upward because the coconut pericarp bits support each other. And this base material is excellent in flexural strength because the coir interlace each other. This base material is capable of applying to the greening of a rooftop, etc., of a building.
