To allow a toilet bowl itself to automatically detect its using condition without requiring particular operations such as input operations.
This toilet bowl 1 has an approach detecting means 2 for detecting, using reflected light rays or the like, variations in the distance to an object and the recovery of the distance. The approach detecting means 2 is set in the center of the upper or lower surface of a lid 1a, the upper or lower surface of a seat 1d, a private-parts washing nozzle or the like so that it can detect whether only the lid 1a is open or the lid 1a and the seat 1d are open when the toilet bowl 1 is used. When detecting that only the lid 1a is open, the means 2 determines that the toilet bowl is used for defection; when detecting that both the lid 1a and the seat 1d are open, it determines that the toilet is used for male urination.
