Abstract:

PURPOSE: To ensure holding of a drill, by a method wherein compressed gas is blown from the cutting edge side of a drill held to a collet to open the collet, and after the drill is pushed up by means of gas, the drill is held by the collet again.

CONSTITUTION: A spindle 11 is positioned to a tool mounting device 18, and a drill 1 and a collar 3 are inserted in a hole 20 in the device 18. Compressed air is blown in the hole 20 from a compressed air source 22 to open a collet 12. The collar 3 is pushed up, a shank 2 of the drill 1 is pressed in the collet 12. The collet 12 is closed, and the drill 1 is held to the collet 12. Further, the presence of a trouble on the tip of the drill is detected by a detecting circuit 25, an emitting element 26, and a collecting element 27. This ensures holding of the drill to the collet.
