Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of the outer ring of a thrust rolling bearing by supporting an annular outer ring constituting each thrust rolling bearing around the intermediate part of each displaced shaft so as to be rotatable around each displaced haft. SOLUTION: In a toroidal continuously variable transmission, since an outer ring 33 constituting each thrust ball bearing 32 is supported rotatably around the intermediate part of a displaced shaft 7, the outer ring 33 is rotated on the basis of the rolling resistance of the thrust ball bearing 32. Therefore, of the outer ring raceway track provided on the inside surface of the outer ring 33, the part receiving a large thrust load from balls 40, 40 which are rotating elements (the part having a large contact pressure with the rolling contact) is regularly changed. Thus, local fatigue of the outer ring raceway track can be eliminated. In other words, the fatigue of the outer ring raceway track is uniformly advanced over the whole circumference. Consequently, the rolling fatigue life can be extended as the whole outer ring raceway track.
