To improve operability of a touch panel device by improving detection accuracy while suppressing incorrect detection by the touch panel device.
A touch panel device includes: a voltage application unit 32 that applies a drive voltage sequentially to transmission electrodes 3A; a charge amount detection unit 33 that detects the charge amount of reception electrodes 3B; an operation detection unit 35 that detects an operation position on a display screen on the basis of the drive voltage of the transmission electrodes 3A and the charge amount of the reception electrodes 3B; and sensitivity control unit 36 that controls the drive voltage for each of the transmission electrodes 3A on the basis of the operation position. The touch panel device increases the drive voltage applied to the transmission electrode 3A corresponding to the operation position, and accordingly, the touch panel device determines that, once a fingertip is touched on the display screen, the operation is still continued even when the fingertip is separated from the display screen for a little while, which allows the operation in a non-contact state.
