To provide an internally mounted transmission apparatus for a bicycle having a simple structure and capable of being mounted on various bicycles in a versatile way.
A plurality of front side rotating bodies 2, 3, 4 corresponding to the number of gear shifting stages are disposed side by side around a crank rotating body 1 fixed to a crank shaft rotated by force on pedal. Rear side rotating bodies 6, 7, 8 interlocking with respective front side rotating bodies 2, 3, 4 at a predetermined speed ratio are integrally rotatably supported by a sub shaft 5 provided at the rear side of the crank shaft. Ratchet pawls 16, 17, 18 corresponding to respective front side rotating bodies 2, 3, 4 are provided on the crank rotating body 1. A ratchet tooth 19 engaged with the ratchet pawls 16, 17, 18 is formed on an inner peripheral side of respective front side rotating bodies 2, 3, 4. The transmission is carried out by engaging/disengaging the ratchet pawls 17, 18 with/from the ratchet tooth 19 in accordance with an operation of a switching member 20 contacting to/separating from the ratchet pawls 17, 18 to switch the front side rotating bodies 2, 3, 4 transmitting a driving force.
