To provide a simple drive system which does not require a complicated control device for various applications of the system.
This traveling drive system for a hybrid vehicle is provided with a heat engine 10 including an engine output shaft 12 holding a clutch 14; a drive shaft 18 connected to the clutch 14 and a speed changing means 20; at least one electric system 36 including a rotor 42; and a motion transmitting device 16 having an output shaft 22 for the speed changing means 20 and a movable axle 24 connected to the output shaft 22 and arranged between the speed changing means 20 and a wheel 17 of the vehicle. The traveling drive system is further provided with a joint 28 provided between one of members 22, 24 of the motion transmitting device 16 and the rotor 42 of the electric system 36 and enabling release of engagement and the other joint 32 provided between the engine output shaft 12 of the heat engine 10 and the rotor 42 and enabling release of engagement.
