PURPOSE: To lighten a carry-in and carry-out travelling crane in an automated storage and retrieval system by fitting the guide rollers of a carriage into recessed grooves formed at the opposed side edges of hollow guide columns extrusion-molded out of aluminum, and passing carriage driving chains through the columns so as to engage the chains with a driving means disposed at the lower end of the columns.
CONSTITUTION: Guide columns 3A, 3B extrusion-molded out of aluminum material is of hollow shape with recessed grooves 38a, 38b formed in the center position of the opposed side edge, across the whole length of the columns 3A, 3B. These guide columns 3A, 3B are erected with one of the recessed grooves 38a, 38b placed adjacent to the elevation path of a carriage 4, and the guide rollers 42, 44 of the carriage 4 are fitted to the opposed recessed grooves 38a, 38b. Chains 10, 11 for elevating the carriage 4 are run through inside the guide columns 3A, 3B and connected to an elevating drive means 5 via the lower ends of the guide columns 3A, 3B.
