To solve the problem with a conventional method for treating a halogen-containing resin that the resin undergoes such degradations as discoloration, mol.wt. decrease, and crosslinking due to the heat treatment in dehalogenation and hence a treating method is necessary for suppressing the quality degradation due to thermal degradation, etc., of a regenerated resin.
A flame-retardant resin is extracted with a high-pressure fluid to remove a flame retardant from a resin containing the retardant. Separation of the retardant from the resin causes both the resin and retardant to be recovered. Since the flame retardant can be removed without causing dehalogenation and without requiring a treatment at such a temperature as to partially decompose the resin, both the resin and retardant are hardly deteriorated and can have qualities suitable for reuse.
