Title:
TREATMENT OF PHENOL DISTILLATION RESIDUE IN THE CUMENE PROCESS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60123434
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: The phenol distillation residue in the cumene process is cracked in the cracker and the crack fraction is distilled to recover useful fractions from the top and simultaneously, the bottom fraction is circulated to the cracker to effect complete recovery of useful components such as phenol.

CONSTITUTION: The phenol distillation residue in the cumene process containing high-boiling components such as p-cumylphenol, carbinols, α-methylstyrene oligomers is fed through line 1 into cracker 2. Then, the cracked fraction containing useful components such as α-methylstyrene, phenol, cumene is sent through line 3 into the distillation column 4 to collect phenol, cumene and α-styrene from the top, and acetophenone, phenol, cresol and so on from the intermediate through line 6. Further, the high-boiling substance recovered from the bottom is sent through line 7 into the cracker where cracking is repeated.
