To enable waste to be treated by a simple method which dispenses with the addition of a reaction additive through melting the waste containing heavy metals and causing a centrifugal force to act upon the waste in a molten state.
A waste is supplied into a rotary crucible 2 through a supply aperture in such a state that the rotation of the rotary crucible 2 is suspended. Further, the waste loaded in the rotary crucible 2 is caused to melt by a Joule heat by applying an AC current from an AC power supply 5 to an energizing coil 4. After the waste is molten to some extant, the whole rotary crucible 2 is caused to rotate through a rotating shaft 6 by a motor 8, and heavy metals whose specific gravity is high gradually move to the peripheral face 2b side from the center part of the rotary crucible 2 by a centrifugal force. In addition, the centrifugal force to be applied to the waste becomes high by increasing the number of rotation of the rotating shaft 6 with the melting of the waste. Consequently, the melt of the heavy metals whose specific gravity is high finding its way out of a gap between the bottom face 3a of a lid 3 and the upper face 2c of the rotary crucible 2 overflows from the rotary crucible 2 to be separated from the waste.
