PURPOSE: To obtain a tricyclic compound useful as an anti-tumor agent.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R is H, an acyl), e.g. 2α- benzoyloxy-6β-hydrotricyclo[6,3,1,01,6]dodeca-9-en-1-one. The compound of formula I is obtained by subjecting a commercially available enone compound of formula II as a starting material successively to an alkylation, a reduction, an acid treatment, a catalytic reduction, a ketal formation and an addition of extra carbon atom to give a triene compound of formula III, then by subjecting the compound of formula III to an intramolecular Diels Alder Reaction to obtain a compound having an objective skelton, further to a catalytic reduction of it to give a ketonic compound, and then by converting the ketonic compound to a compound having a releasable group at the α-position, and finally applying an elimination reaction thereto using a base such as DBU.
