PURPOSE: To obtain a trihalogen-substituted phenoxycarboxamide derivative, capable of exhibiting germicidal action on Piricularia oryzae growing in rice cropping in paddy field by both foliar and submerged applications and useful as an agricultural germicide without exhibiting phytotoxicity to rice plant at all.
CONSTITUTION: The objective trihalogen-substituted phenoxycarboxamide derivative of formula I (R is alkylene or alkenylene; R1 and R2 are H, alkyl or cycloalkyl; R1 and R2, together with C to which they are bound, may form 5-to 7-membered carbocyclic ring; W is C≡N or CONH2; X, Y and Z are halogen), e.g. N-(1-cyano-1,2dimethylpropyl)-2-(2,3,4-trichlorophenoxy)propionamide. This compound of formula I is obtained by reacting, e.g. a compound of formula II with a compound of formula VII, providing a compound of formula III, then passing the resultant compound through compounds of formulas IV and V and reacting the prepared compound of formula V with a compound of formula VI in the presence of a deacidifying agent.
