To provide a tripod type constant velocity universal joint capable of securely preventing leakage of lubricant between a tripod shaft and a tripod housing and intrusion of a foreign matter from the outside by an oil seal and a dust seal and reducing wear of the dust seal and a mate member with which the dust seal comes into contact as much as possible to realize its use for a long time.

The oil seal 6 sealing a region including a shaft end part of the tripod shaft 1 and the dust seal 7 provided on an outer side of the oil seal 6 are mounted in the tripod housing 3 through a seal holding ring 5 movable in the radial direction. The oil seal 6 and the dust seal 7 are brought into slide-contact with a spherical face part 10 provided in the tripod shaft 1, and a DLC membrane 100 is formed in at least either of the dust seal 7 obliged to come into solid-contact and the spherical face part 10. Consequently, coefficient of friction of a slide-contact part of both of these members is reduced and their wear is suppressed.
