PURPOSE: To correct a position between patterns quickly and easily by detecting top addresses where black picture element counted number data of standard and input patterns is stored after said data of both patterns is sequentially stored in each address of the memory corresponding to each horizontal scanning line and calculating a dislocation amount between patterns from the difference between heading addresses.
CONSTITUTION: When a television camera 1 pickups an image of standard model at the learning mode side, the binarization processing of the initial odd field of a video signal VDi is executed, and a standard pattern is formed. A picture element counter 6 counts black picture elements for every horizontal scanning line. An interruption signal INT with respect to a CPU8 is produced at each hourly timing of a horizontal synchronizing signal HD of the odd field. The CPU8 fetches black picture element counted number data of the picture element counter 6 in this horizontal synchronizing period and stores said data in a RAM10. In case of executing the recognition processing, the CPU8 executes the fetching of the black picture element counted number data of the picture element counter 6 and the storage to a RAM11 in the horizontal synchronizing period, while in the vertical synchronizing period, the CPU8 executes the detection of a dislocation amount of an input pattern with respect to the standard pattern, the correction of the dislocation and the pattern comparison processing.
