PHENYLENEDIAMINE DERIVATIVE AND ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC PHOTORECEPTOR USING THE SAME

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new derivative suitably used as a charge transporting agent, especially a positive hole transporting agent in solar cells, electroluminescent elements, electrophotographic photoreceptors, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This phenylenediamine derivative is expressed by formula I [R1 and R4 are each an alkyl, an alkoxy, a halogen or an (substituted)aryl; (m), (n), (p) and (q) are each 0-3], e.g. N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(4-methylphenyl)-o- phenylendiamine expressed by formula II. The compound expressed by formula I, e.g. the exemplified compound expressed by formula II is obtained by mixing o-phenylendiamine expressed by formula III with p-iodotoluene expressed by formula IV at 1:4 molar ratio together with copper powder, copper oxide or a copper halide, etc., and reacting the compounds in the presence of a basic substance. A photosensitive layer containing the phenylendiamine derivative expressed by formula I is formed on an electrically conductive substrate to afford an electrophotographic photoreceptor. The photosensitive layer is preferably a single-layer type photosensitive layer containing the phenylenediamine derivative expressed by formula I as a charge transporting agent together with a charge producing agent.
