The ultrasonic level meter for measuring the range up to measuring object by the travelling time of ultrasonic wave, transmitted from a transceiver 12 laid on the tip of ultrasonic wave detecting device 11 toward a measuring object comprises an ultrasonic measuring device 13 for measuring airborne sound speed of ultrasonic wave, laid on the side face of ultrasonic wave detecting device; a cylindrical oscillator 17 disposed on the side face of ultrasonic wave detecting device; a stepped cylindrical tube 20 disposed on the peripheral position of ultrasonic wave detecting device; a transmitting circuit for driving the cylindrical oscillator with variable frequency; a receiving circuit for receiving the ultrasonic signals reflected and returned from the level difference of the cylindrical tube; an integrator for integrating ultrasonic wave signals receiving at the receiving circuit; a memory for storing each transmitting frequency of ultrasonic wave transmitted from the transmitting circuit and each integrated data generated in the aforementioned integrator; and an arithmetic unit for calculating sound speed from frequency interval, between the maximum and the minimum points of each integration data, after removing the impact of oscillator through division of frequency characteristic of the oscillator stored in the memory for the integration data.
