A data base in which photographing conditions for photographing picture images for measurement are registered is stored in a memory 146. The photographing conditions for photographing picture images suitable for performing, for example, BPD measurement related to fetus, CRL measurement, FFL measurement, FTD measurement, or the like, are registered per measurement item in the data base in advance. The photographing conditions include, for example, scan mode, depth of photographing, echo receive sensitivity, dynamic range of echo level, TGC data, and other appropriate photographing parameters. A processor reads the photographing conditions corresponding to the measurement item from the data base in the memory 146 and controls photographing based on the photographing conditions.
