To provide an ultrasonic probe apparatus having a capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducer (cMUT) with a wider frequency band for transmission and reception and to provide a control method of the ultrasonic probe apparatus.
A cMUT array 100 includes a first cMUT 130 and a second cMUT 140. A band control portion 220 calculates two types of different bias voltages. One bias voltage is applied to the first cMUT 130 via a first bias regulator 272, and the other voltage is applied to the second cMUT 140 via a second bias regulator 274. The first cMUT 130 and the second cMUT 140 to which the different bias voltages are applied function in the different frequency bands. The different frequency bands are determined by the band control portion 220 so that partial portions of them are overlapped or are adjacent each other. Thus, the cMUT array 100 having the first cMUT 130 and the second cMUT 140 functions in the wide frequency band as a whole.
