Ultrasonic alternating voltage is impressed on thickness slide piezoelectric elements 5a and 5b from ultrasonic driving circuits 8a and 8b. As a result, slide vibration in directions shown by arrows A and B of a machining table 2 is excited. When machining in the direction of the arrow A is performed, ultrasonic alternating voltage is impressed on the thickness slide piezoelectric element 5a from the ultrasonic driving circuit 8a. When machining in the direction of the arrow B is performed, ultrasonic alternating voltage is impressed on the thickness slide piezoelectric element 5b from the ultrasonic driving circuit 8b.
