To provide a universal joint for handrails, which can cope with an extremely wide range of connection angles, can connect even handrails which are arranged at any angle while exhibiting good appearance of the joint, and is excellent in safety.

A notched interstitial portion 21 which bifurcates a leading end of each of connecting joints 20 is formed, and each end of a plate-like intermediate joint 30 is inserted into the interstitial portion 21 of the connecting joint 20. A pair of connecting shafts 1 each penetrating through the connecting joint 20 and the intermediate joint 30 rockingly connect the connecting joints 20 together. A soft cover body 40 which covers connecting joints 20 and the intermediate joint 30 assuming the connection position is arranged between fixed bodies 10. A reinforcing member 31 having the same diameter as the axial diameter of the connecting joint 20 is arranged in the intermediate joint 30, and the reinforcing member 31 supports the cover body 40 from the inside thereof.
