Abstract:

To provide an oral medicine or a food composition for treatment of arteriosclerosis or an arteriosclerotic disease comprising a clinically effective amount of the whole part or a reactive part of phytoglobulin.

The phytoglobulin useful for treating or arresting atherosclerosis is obtained by dissolving a crude protein extracted from a raw material plant in 1M NaCl, fractionating the resultant solution using 30% ammonium sulfate, and dialyzing the resultant precipitate. The preferable example of the phytoglobulin is rice 19 kDa globulin.
