Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fragrant substance and a perfuming agent having excellent characteristics as a preserving agent and/or a reinforcing agent by using a specific compd.
SOLUTION: A compd. represented by the formula is used. In the formula, R1 and R2 are each H, 3-8C alkyl, or 1-8C alkoxy provided they may combine with each other to form methylenedioxo (-O-CH2-O-); and R3 to R8 are each H or 1-8C alkyl provided the total number of carbon atoms of groups, R1 to R8, is 2-8 and at least one carbon atom is present on groups, R3 to R8. All the compds. represented by the formula except 5-phenyl-2,4-dimethylpentanol, 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-methylpentanol, 5-phenyl-2-ethylpentanol, 5-(4- methoxyphenyl)-3,3-dimethylpentanol, and 5-phenyl-3,3-dimethylpentanol are novel compds.
