PURPOSE: To obtain a packing material having a large surface area per unit volume and with its pressure drop reduced by forming a tube with a knitted material consisting of plural parallel wires and obliquely fixing the tube in a packed tower.

CONSTITUTION: A tube 1 is formed with a knitted material consisting of plural parallel stainless steel wires. The outer tube 1 and the inner tube 1 placed on a circle are inclined in the same direction so that the tube 1 is not positioned in parallel with or at right angles to the axis of the packed tower, and plural tubes are bundled in accordance with the capacity of the tower. The plural tubes 1 are bound up with a belt 4. When vapor-liq. contact is carried out using this packing material, the surface area per unit volume is increased, pressure drop is reduced, and the tower is economically operated.
