PURPOSE: To improve characteristics and reliability of a variable capacitor by eliminating a contact movable part of a conventional variable capacitor so that no contact resistance generates.
CONSTITUTION: A stator electrode plate 2 and a stator electrode plate 3 are so arranged that one faces the other at a prescribed space with no contact in between, and a dielectric 4 fixed to each shaft 1 is inserted in between the two electrode plates 2 and 3. By rotating the shaft 1, an insertion area of each dielectric 4 between the two electrodes 2 and 3 can be increased or reduced and an electric field between 2 and 3 is changed to vary the electrostatic capacity. Since in this variable capacitor, a high-frequency current passes from a terminal 5 to the electrode plate 2, and from a terminal 6 to the electrode plate 3, respectively, a conventional method of passing a high-frequency current to a movable part of the shaft, which rotates a rotor electrode plate, is not necessary.
