PURPOSE: To attain the variable speed reproduction with high reliability, by generating a piezoelectric bimorph drive signal displaced in the same speed as a period in charge of signal reproduction even at a period where the rotary magnetic head is not in charge of reproducing a signal from a recording track.

CONSTITUTION: Waveforms of displacement produced from the rotary magnetic heads 4 and 5 at still reproduction are shown in Figs. (c) and (d) and the sawtooth wave is obtained, where the period is for two fields and the amount of head shift at the end of scanning is for two track pitches. As shown in Figs. (e) and (f), the head is shifted in the same speed as that of the scanning period even at the non-scanning period by applying quickly the shift double the amount of the required shift. The piezoelectric bimorphs 6 and 7 are driven with the output and the variable speed reproduction without noise bar is attained.
