To simplify facilities for extracting a vehicle body selected from a line conveying a plurality of models of vehicle bodies run to transfer it onto another line, to reduce capital investment, and to easily accelerate a body manufacturing line.

This vehicle body extracting apparatus extracts a subbody 1' using a floor traveling lifter 10, when the subbody 1' of a vehicle body selected from vehicle bodies 1 supported by the open/close hanger 3 of an overhead conveyor 2 from the bottom is transferred to a prescribed body extracting position S. The lifter 10 moves up a lift platform 13, pushes up from the hanger 3 the subbody 1' supported by the hanger 3, and only the hanger 3 moves forward on the overhead conveyor 2. When the hanger 3 removes from the subbody 1' supported by the lifter the lifter 10 lowers the lift platform 13 and the subbody 1' and moves on a floor 4 laterally to complete one cycle of body extraction.
