Abstract:

To improve fuel economy by advancing a stating timing for fuel-cut in a vehicle on which a fluid coupling is mounted with a lock-up clutch.

An engine ECU executes a program which includes a step (S110) of measuring an after-idling passage counter T when an engine is in an idling condition (YES in S100), a step (S130) of selecting a longer delay time T(A) when the lock-up clutch is in a released condition (NO in S120), a step (S150) of selecting a shorter delay time T(B) when the lockup clutch is in an engaging condition or in a slipping condition (YES in S120), and a step (S170) of starting the fuel-cut when the after-idling passage counter T gets to the delay time T(A) or T(B) (YES in S140 or YES in S160).
