To provide a vehicular overspeed limiter capable of controlling the traveling speed of a vehicle not to exceed the limit speed even when a driver drives the vehicle without observing the limit speed, or the driver does not notice the change of the limit speed.

The overspeed limiter 1 has limit speed acquiring means 2, 3, 4 to acquire the limit speed at a plate where the self vehicle travels, and a speed limiting means 7 to limit the traveling speed of the self vehicle so as to exceed the limit speed acquired by the limit speed acquiring means. The maximum speed at which a vehicle such as a car on the market can travel is controlled by the overspeed limiter 1 so as not to exceed the limit speed at the place where the self vehicle travels. The limit speed acquiring means comprises a self vehicle position detection unit 3 to detect the present position of the self vehicle, a rod data storage unit 4 to store the data on a road where the self vehicle travels, and a control unit 5 to acquire the limit speed from the road data corresponding the present position of the self vehicle. The speed limiting means limits the traveling speed by providing a limit signal to an engine control system of the self vehicle.
