To provide a video camera system where a load of a personal computer in the case of image expansion is relieved and a video image with less deterioration in image quality can be transmitted by approaching an image compression rate to a predetermined set value so that the required bandwidth is set within a bandwidth of a transmission line from a video camera to the personal computer.
The video camera system is provided with a storage means that stores image data obtained by picking up an image by a solid-state image pickup element 2 and subjected to image signal processing, a storage means 5 that applies quantization processing 7 by using a quantization table changeover means to select a quantization table to the image data and stores compressed image data after the image compression processing, an image data capacity detection means 10 that detects a capacity of the compressed image data stored in the storage means 5, an external I/F circuit including video signal conversion processing for display on a video display device and a transfer means to an external device.
